Background: I was born in Passaic, New Jersey in 1947. After high school I moved to Maui to attend Maunaolu College, where I earned my A.A. From there I transferred to the University of Hawaii and then the University of Miami, where I graduated with a B.S. in Biology and a B.A. in Psychology. After a few years away from school, I returned to Fairleigh Dickenson University to earn my Master's Degree in Special Education, and a certificate as a Learning Disability Teachers Consultant.

Personal: I am married with three grown sons. Each of my sons has attended public school on Maui, with one graduating from Maui High School and one from Lahainaluna High School. Our oldest chose to pursue his faith and attended a parochial school for his high school years. My wife and I live on our small protea farm with our dog, Disney.
